Emir of Kano Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II Deposed from Kano Emirate Throne

The Emir’s removal was announced on Monday via the official Twitter handle of the Director-General, Media and Communications, Kano State Government, Salihu Yakasai @Dawisu which reads: “The Kano State Executive Council has unanimously approved the dethronement of the Emir of Kano Mallam Muhammad Sanusi II at a special sitting held today by the council.
In a press release read by the Secretary to the State Government on behalf of the Executive Council Usman Alhaji said the Emir was dethroned for his total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the governor of kano state and other constituted authorities and his persistent refusal to attend official meetings and programmes organised by the government without any lawful justification which according to the press release amounted to insubordination.
According to the press release, relevant stakeholders were consulted before the dethronement of the Emir in compliance with part 3 section 13 of the Kano state emirate law 2019 adding that the removal is to safeguard the sanctity culture tradition religion and prestige of the Kano Emirate built over a thousand years ago.
The press released signed by Usman Alhaji stated that the Governor of Kano His Excellency Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje calls on the general public to remain calm law abiding and go about their normal business before a new Emir for Kano Emirate is appointed.
