Osun Heritage International Half Marathon Organisers Announce Prize Money

Organisers of the maiden edition of Osun Heritage International Half Marathon, the Zenith Business Suites Lagos, on Wednesday Announced that it would payout 8,000 dollars (each) to the first male and female winners of the marathon event holding in Osogbo, Osun State.

Mr Aderemi Akinwale, the Race Director and organiser, made this known during the press conference and logo unveiling of the marathon event in Osogbo.

Akinwale said the half marathon was being organised by Zenith Business Suites in partnership with Osun Government to honour, mark and commemorate the one year anniversary of Gov. Gboyega Oyetola as Osun governor.

Akinwale said the Half marathon is scheduled to hold on the 23rd of November 2019 with over 20,000 participants expected, both locally and internationally.

He revealed that prices would be given in three categories and that “8,000 dollars each would be given to the first male and female in the international price category.

” 1 million Naira would be given to the first male and female in the national price category while N750,000 would also be given to each of the first male and female indigenes of Osun who makes it to the finish line, in the Osun indigene’s category.

“Athletes/participants will run a total of 21.5km race through Osogbo major roads, starting from the state secretariat roundabout in Abere and terminating the race at Freedom Park, Old Garage Area in Osogbo.” he explained

speaking further Adewale revealed that they as organisers have fixed the registration for the race at a token of One thousand Naira Only (N1,000.00k) to give room for easy participation while confirming that the registration form had been made available at all local government secretariats and also at all tertiary institutions in Osun State.

Finally Adewale revealed that arrangements have been made for adequate security, Medical Coverage and live Media coverage as the plan is to make this race an annual event.

Also Speaking at the Media parley Mr Biyi Odunlade, The Supervisor of Osun Ministry of Social Protection, Sports and Special Needs, said the marathon programme was linked to the first year anniversary of the state governor because sport is seen as an important tool for healthy living and governance.

<strong>Odunlade said</strong>: “whether as independent entity or organisation, we all need sports to survive.” He revealed that the governor was approached with the idea of the marathon, and being a sports loving governor, he the organisers his support.

Speaking further Odunlade Denied insinuations that the governor had neglected sports in the state and the Osun Heritage International Half Marathon, is a good way to show the world that the state is doing great things in the area of sports.

In conclusion He said the state government is also trying to sensitise the general public on the importance of physical exercise and fitness.

“We are preaching to the people that “they should not die young”. “its not always about looking for money, take time to walk or run around your house to keep yourself health”.

“We are organising this marathon to let people know the importance of a sound mind a sound body.” he concluded.
